  • The CEO is for a good reason an easy target: Show me another company where this level of incompetence is rewarded with steady salary increases?!? (I am afraid you’ll be able to. ;-))

Given your calculation is correct, you are correct that paying the CEO nothing would not make a big difference for Mozillas income. Although it would hopefully open the road for a better CEO.

Your argument that hitting at the CEO ignores the whole context of market dominance of Google could IMHO also used against your argument: If the CEO is so powerless that she cannot take the responsibility for the decline of Mozilla, than why does she get payed at all. If all is a function of the environment and the tides of the market, we can easily replace her with ChatGPT and have the same results w/o wasting money.

At the end of the day, we are exactly where we have been literally a decade ago: Finding a sustainable business model for Mozilla/Firefox. Once more: This core problem of Mozilla/Firefox has been well known for over a decade by now, and again the CEOs only answer is advertisement. Why do we pay money for the bullshit every first semester MBA student would come up with a brainstorming within the first 3 minutes.

Mozilla survives thanks to Google and their (rightful) fears of being outed as a monopoly.

The discussion is always if Mozilla could survive on donations. I do not now if they could. I still think there are a lot of actors with an interest of an independent browser, even whole governments. What I know for sure is, I won’t donate to Mozilla as long as incompetent CEOs are payed.

  • Ah, the usual propaganda from the fucking content mafia and the lobbyists they bought:

“The takedown of Fmovies is a testament to the power of collaboration in protecting the intellectual property rights of creators around the world,” Knapp says.

“Strengthening intellectual property rights is an important element of the U.S.-Vietnam Comprehensive Partnership,” Knapper said

I’ll happily repeat again and again and again:

    • If pirate sites offer a better user experience than your paid offerings, you don’t deserve payments at all
    • The money goes mostly to some rich fucks, fucking shareholders, lawyers and bought politicians and and not to the artists/creators of the movies (with some exceptions for the really big names)
    • I will very happily pay a service which is not shitty, not region locked, doesn’t annoy me with advertisement and is reasonably priced. The illegal sites are demonstrating that it is possible to sustain such an offer on advertisement alone. Don’t give me fucking bullshit that it is not possible for companies like Netflix while most of the subscription fees are going to shareholders and higher management instead into creating new content

Seriously, fuck all the politicians and governments which act against the benefit of most of their population to conspire with the content mafia.

  • I have it on all my phones and Steam.

I love the phone version, because StS works perfect/intuitive with touch controls. I also play it on the laptop with a mouse, no problem. I never used a Switch so cannot comment on it at all.

It really boils down to how you like to play it, but right now it is only a few bucks in the Steam sale, and you can return it within 2 hours, so why not try it on Steam and see if it clicks? (WARNING: It clicked for me after more than 2 hours, at the start I found it a little bit bland.)

  • Never played Contra 4, just the NES Contra and Super Contra, is Contra 4 worth to play?

I have to admit I did not even notice that there are no sprites. What the demo totally nailed are crisp controls, pacing and mostly level design. (Mostly, because my nit picks would be, that the weapon pods/upgrades use the same red as the enemies, which makes them hard to see sometimes, and even in Arcade mode there are some animations (helicopter crash, boss on top of the waterfall) which are so long they break the flow, a little bit too easy for a Contra.

Still, I am looking forward to next Tuesday!
