Hello everyone. totally nob here but very enthusiastic. I’m trying to repair an old SA610 pioneer amp that is shorted. I remove the power transformer and it’s ok, generating 64 volts between red and orange as 32 volts between any of these and the white wire.
So, the short lies elsewhere, but I’m having a little trouble trying to find it ou. Can anyone help me?
How do you know it’s shorted? Does the protection relay click?
If you can find the service manual you could try looking at various checkpoints in the circuit to see where the voltages go wrong.
You might try Audiokarma, they’ve got a very deep knowledge pool for this stuff.
Wow, thanks a lot for the tip! I’ll have a look at them. I tested with an incandescent bulb in series with the power supply. It lit up brightly, indicating a short circuit. I also tested for continuity directly at the power cord, which confirmed the short. I tested the transformer apart from the circuit, and it’s working fine.
