I only have a vague understanding. The technique used to manufacture integrated circuits is called photolithography. Basically, these circuits need such tiny features etched into them that we can’t do it through traditional means. Instead, we draw a picture of the circuit we want, hundreds of times larger, shine a light through it, and use lenses to shrink the pattern down to size. This big pattern is called a “mask”.
So what’s the deal with the demonic sigils above? As we make our circuits smaller, the physics gets stranger. For instance, there’s this effect called quantum tunneling where electrons just teleport to a part of the circuit we would not expect based on classical physics. Due to these kinds of effects, we have to do crazy things to the masks if we want the circuit to behave correctly.
Disclaimer: I am not an electrical engineer and I have no idea what I’m talking about.
The nanometer-scale sigils are getting increasingly elaborate, presumably because the tinier demons are better at escaping.

1·5 months agoYou can also ask it to repeat the letter A one million times. For reasons I don’t understand, it will say “A A A…” for a while before hitting some sort of repetition limit and then it starts speaking gibberish.
What does “maintain a lower profile” mean specifically? I think the point of a private tracker is that you don’t need to enable DHT, which effectively broadcasts to the internet that your IP address is trying to download content identified by a specific hash.
Isn’t that the whole point of a private tracker?
And that’s why you should use tools instead of trying to blow a house down if you wanna eat some little pigs.
For practical purposes, it’s probably good enough. You could write a program to check whether it’s non-repeating up to N digits, so just set N high enough that it will last you for a few thousand releases…

I have a similar story. I started a new job and inherited a ball of mud written in Python while the creator was out for a few weeks. When he got back, he was grumpy about my changes. I guess he preferred it with more bugs 🤷♂️

You could try using rclone’s Google Photos backend. It’s a command line tool, sort of like rsync but for cloud storage. https://rclone.org/
