    1. Yes, portainer will see every container you make, regardless of how it was created.

    2. No, creating a docker container doesn’t make a compose file. It’s like cooking a meal doesn’t output a recipe.

    3. You can save the compose file(s) wherever you want, you just need to run “docker compose up” from that directory. If you make the container within portainer, I believe it stores the compose files in its own volume. Not sure about that, I keep my compose file separate from portainer for most services.

  • For a similar reason that most coaches don’t actually participate with the athletes they’re training: their job is to watch the athletes, look for gaps in their technique, and help them to address those. You can’t look for that as effectively if you’re swimming alongside them compared to standing on the side of the pool.

But yeah, all “learn HOW to swim” lessons I’ve ever seen have the instructor in the water with the student, because they have to be like 25% teacher 75% lifeguard.

  • You sound like the CEO at my old company 🤣

Fediverse makes improvements on existing social media formats, but there are so many issues inherent to online social media that cannot be fixed by slightly changing the format.

Short-term, consequence-free interaction with strangers is not a substitute for actual social interaction, but it’s become one of the default modes of socialization in the modern world. It’s a bell that can’t be un-rung, but moving from reddit to lemmy isn’t going to mute it in any significant way either.

I’d say solidly GenZ. Thinking that everybody else is stuck in the vortex of lies but you have now broken free by [doing something only marginally different]. The kind of idealism you see in youth. Fediverse apps help with some of the problems we see in other social media, but ultimately it’s a new diet, same shit.

I read once that a major reason the coffee is supposed to be good, is that the animals (in the wild) tend to seek out the ripest, healthiest coffee beans to eat. They’re abundant (prior to human intervention), so why settle for less?

But then we cage them and force-feed them whatever, so they’re just medium (or low) quality beans to start with. So even if you look past the cruelty, it’s not even the quality of coffee the reputation suggests.
