The feeling is even better when they let you go because you no longer have a moral obligation to transition anything over to your coworkers. You can just fuck off and not feel bad. This typically highlights all the holes in management when they are ineffective at delegating your tasks and things get dropped. My husband witnessed this happen recently. They let an employee go nearly a year ago, then a client started sending emails wondering what was happening to their project and why there hadn’t been communication.
I really enjoyed this video, but one thing bugs me a bit. Why does he specifically call attention to Tesla as a brand and not Luminar? If he’s trying to be scientific about the technology, it should be “lidar vs imaging”. Or if he does want to call out brands, “Luminar vs Tesla”. Not that I’m defending Tesla, but this just seems weird to me when his videos are typically more educational.
The issue here is that there isn’t one. If someone rolled out an update to a dishwasher that broke it and they offered to replace it with something that is not the same size, you would be pretty unhappy with how it fits in your kitchen. If they replace my phone, it will be far too large for me. I accepted the battery swap for this reason. I’m hoping small phones will make a comeback, but I’m skeptical.
I don’t want my phone replaced. I like my phone the way it is. They don’t sell phones this small anymore and my small hands need it. Also it’s fucking garbage that the standard is to get a new phone every 2 years. It’s incredibly wasteful especially when you consider that people don’t just trash their computers after 2 years. My 4A is only 4 years old and going strong! Here’s to hopefully a few more years!

The first job I had was for a dinky little 15 person company. Obviously they didn’t have loads of money and the way most corporate software contracts work is it’s a lot cheaper for a period, like 1-2 years, and then the price increases. So they would jump ship before the price increase and use another product after that. So I ended up learning loads of different digital marketing platforms. I list them on my resume when I can, otherwise I just list the big ones and put something like “various digital marketing platforms”. But thanks to all the magical algorithms that pick out what they need from all the entries, you pretty much have to have the exact platform they want on your resume in order for the bot to be satisfied. Some things I would understand, like if someone didn’t know how to use key software for their field. But all the other stuff that gets tossed around should be considered “trainable” and not part of application requirements. Yet here we are…

I went to Meijer a week ago and saw they had a pallet of candy corn. I was like wow this early? And I bought a bag thinking it must be left over from last year or something, but no it was just the opposite. It was the freshest bag of candy corn I’ve ever eaten and it was very delicious. But it also made me realize that the reason I’m never getting fresh candy corn for Halloween is because they literally make it and ship it in late July/early August and then just let it sit there for 3 months until Halloween. But at least now I know when the best time is to buy candy corn… So there’s that.
Last year I went blueberry picking the day before I had to leave for vacation. So I took a quart-size bag of blueberries on the plane with me and ate those the whole way there. 10/10 best plane snack I’ve ever had!

At my first job that literally employed 10 people, the internal IT manager left for a better job. He had been working for them for 5 years and did all sorts of things that weren’t in his job description much like all of us since there were, you know, 10 of us. I remember them complaining about not getting any applications and also asking me in the marketing department about how to entice new candidates. My coworker and I looked at the job posting which required 10 years of experience for entry level pay and both suggested that they either need to pay more or reduce the experience required. Their excuse for not doing so basically amounted to that they were paying the previous guy this amount so surely they don’t need to pay more. Except… He left? Because of money most likely? It baffled me how they just couldn’t connect the dots there.
