  • I’ve played almost every game between gen 3 and gen 7, but that’s about where I started falling out of love with it. Idk something about the new games just doesn’t jive with me. Rom hacks are pretty cool, although I felt they were stagnant for a while. Been a while since i checked though so time to see if people have cooked up anything good in the last year or two

    1. I host at home so unfortunately can’t give you any advice on a vps

    2. If you’re torrenting, yes I would recommend a VPN. If you’re setting up docker containers, gluetun is what you want to use. It’s a client you can use to connect to most major VPN providers

    3. You don’t need to open your server to the internet for you or your partner to remotely access it. You can use tailscale (or manually setup wireguard) to remotely access it without exposing anything. Alternatively, if you still want to open it, you can use fail2ban. I don’t know enough about networking to tell you exactly how secure it makes you, but assuming you’re a normal guy who isn’t pissing off any major corporations/states/etc it’s probably fine

    4. I haven’t clicked on any of the links you provided, but I assume they mention the *arr stack. Some other goodies that may not have been mentioned though are jellyseerr, which has a nice frontend to search and request movies and TV, and homarr, which is a dashboard you can setup to sync with your other hosted apps. I have a couple extra I could tell you if you want, but I think these are the most important for a basic “official feeling” setup

  • It depends on what kind of software you usually use. You should look up the programs you use regularly/can’t live without to see if they have Linux versions or if they have decent replacements. If everything there checks out, find an LTS distro. Debian/Ubuntu and derivatives (PopOS or Mint) or fedora and derivatives (I don’t know any fedora derivatives) would be good.

I started using PopOS last year for a gaming machine and all the tinkering I did, I did because I’m a nerd and I wanted to. If I wanted an easy experience without even looking at a command line I think I could’ve.

One more thing. Most (maybe all?) Linux distros can be booted and viewed in a live environment from a USB without having to erase your whole drive (just make sure you don’t go through the setup and actually erase your drive (unless you want to))

  • You’ve basically outlined everything people hate about modern assassin’s creed. It’s generally accepted that the last good ac was origins which came out in 2017, and while I do enjoy it, it was the start of ac becoming the generic open-world cookie-cutter rpg that it is today.

As cool as the upcoming game sounds, being set in Japan which people have been wanting for a very long time, and as much as I want to enjoy every ac game, the past few releases have just been chipping away my hope at getting something good
