At some point, someone needs to make a law to break these monopolies.
How about forcing stores to allow moving games into another store. For example, allow me to move a game from steam to the epic games store, or the other way around. Then the whole “but I have all my games on Steam already” problem would be solved when switching to new stores.
I’m using immich for half a year or so now. There only problem is that it did not chunked uploads. So one large video just never uploaded, and I had to use nextcloud to upload it instead. Otherwise, it’s great.

What actually stops the worry is social security, such as state welfare or having a partner that earns a salary as well. This way, there is backup.

Honestly, I don’t even want to have all that money at once. If just the job market is good enough that I will always be employed and earn a livable wage, that’s what makes it already. It’s a lot about trust in the economy, and knowing that there is a social system that prevents me from starving in case my education becomes worthless at some point.
