Things won’t be simpler just because you cut everything up in tiny tiny pieces (I mean it will be easier because it solves some surface level problem right now, pushing the real problem down the road), it creates a complexity of its own.

Oh I’m fine, static IP and so on, but, for example, my friend has this crappy shared ports system so I’m interested in something alleviating that. What you described seemed like the solution to non-static IP addresses so I just commented that.

The idea itself is, IMO, wrong. That’s why the rule is just bad. I won’t do onto you what I want you to do onto me. Obviously if you think about it. There is no magic hidden idea inside it, it just sounds good if you don’t think about it.

But for this to work, everyone has to understand every other person. I don’t feel the golden rule is about that. Also, a rule which is abused if you use it straight out of the box without enough thinking is IMO not a very good rule, especially if it’s supposed to be some sort of catch-all good rule.

Well, anecdotal evidence of course but with the exception where a PSU blew up (and damaged a whole lot of things) I only ever have had RAM stick problems since like -95. Three times. Over some 30-40 PCs.

He’s a bit a one of a kind, his home is always open and that’s what he likes.

And 4 sticks are 4 times more prone to break down.
