  • First time I hear about that! Haven’t talked with my Colombian friends in a while, but regions are indeed getting stronger differences every day although it is mostly with the marked s, c, g, h, j, r sounds, rarely with the vowels.

Anecdotally, I’ve never met a spanish speaker from any country (Colombia included) that pronounces the “e” as “ey” though, so it’s interesting to think how that can happen. For context, tv and people in general use that pronunciation to mock (in a satirical way) English speakers trying to speak Spanish.

  • It looks like there might be a slight misunderstanding, “e” is pronounced as the e in “metal”, “test”, “wrench”.

We do not use a different sound for it, and it does not rhyme with hey at all :D

Adding the H to some of these letters wouldn’t give the right sound for native english speakers

I think the only one that could be tricky would be the “uh” since it could be confused with the interjection “uhhh”, but as you mentioned, it is indeed pronounced as “oo”.

  • It’s somewhat better but heavily depends on what you play and how you play it. Empirically, it’s better as now I only find toxic players every 20 games or so, when before it was like 1/2. But I also recommend to just mute everything and everyone and stick to ARAM if you don’t like toxicity.

  • Catholicism spread their regionalized interpretations of Jesus and other important figures, for example the virgin Mary is represented with attributes similar to those of the locals as well as the colors of the country flag.

In Mexico we have the Virgen de Guadalupe, she’s “morenita” (light brownish skin) and she’s wearing a green robe, she has a red aura around her and she’s on a white ish background, similar to the Mexican flag 🇲🇽

In Argentina they have the Virgen de Luján, she’s wearing a light blue robe and her hands suddenly pop out of her robe right in the middle of her body, simulating the structure of the Argentinian flag 🇦🇷

In Venezuela, they have the Virgen de Coromoto, wearing a blue robe, red pants and she’s under a yellow structure, once again, similar to the country flag. 🇻🇪

They used the virgin here as LATAM countries are centered around respect for one’s mother, so normally you can find people calling the virgin as they would their mother, and then you sprinkle the flags colors for further identification.

Still, it’s still used as a measurement that only a small fraction of the world still uses.

    That’s a lot of stills 🤔

But coming back to your point, yes, I have no idea why the US insists on keeping the imperial system, it’s outdated, ugly and inconsistent. Plus you cannot easily convert from one unit to another.

  • My kitchen YouTube feed randomly showed me a “Rachel Zegler criticism” video and I was curious so I put it while cooking.

It was basically a 40 min rant where some YouTuber was showing her hypocrisy because she said Hollywood needs more representation from latinos even though she was acting on a movie as a puerto rican. The video could have been 2 minutes long but I noticed it was mostly the guy criticising every single word she’s said and telling you how to feel about it.

I checked YouTube the next day and now it’s full of alt right channels, for context I mostly watch veritasium, audit the Audit, science podcasts, dw documentaries, kurzgesagt and some music videos, I rarely watch political stuff on that account and yet now I see Ben Shapiro, Piers Morgan, Andrew Tate, Steven Crowder and the likes, literally my whole front page was just them and my automatic queue would be increasingly alt right shit.

I clicked on not interested and don’t recommend this channel and yet I constantly see the videos showing up in the front page.

I think YouTube is heavily pushing this type of content, even if you try to show the algorithm that you are not interested. They probably see that it makes people get more engaged with the platform so they are okay with radicalizing everyone just for profit.

  • I know of a certain big company that has a bug report UI in one of their main products that literally goes nowhere, it used to go to a table in the db, then they removed the table since it was not really used and they wanted to get more storage, so someone quick fixed the bug report to go to a Google sheet

Nobody really checks that sheet and it is not automated or used for anything at all, the person that created that sheet was also deprovisioned some time ago.

Also since many things have changed the only thing that is pulled to the sheet is the first field to specify the category of the bug, all the descriptions, files, photos, logs and more granular items are just not going anywhere.

When this was reported the only reply from management was “QA will check it later” this was 2 years ago so…yeah
