True. But you can save photos and videos under self-healing filesystem like zfs. Is far more cheaper than a year of multiple premium subscriptions (google, netflix, spotify). And it’s not recurring monthly other than electricity bill…

Indeed. Also, I am concerned about self-hosting enthusiasts that install docker (without the advance rootless mode) and blindly run containers. Sometimes these containers are even made by third parties, independent of the app developers. Unfortunately, the supply chain there is up for grabs…

Docker is not rootless. Is only safe as long as the container (or those web devs) doesn’t use nsenter or anything similar to get root access outside of it ;)

Do check seaweedfs too! Haven’t tried it (yet) but their ‘erasure coding’ reads as super sophisticated to me ;)

I don’t know this group but I am on a telegram group that shares movies produced in my country of origin. It’s quite niche, I never saw any tracker that does the same. I doubt it for usenet but never looked into it. Anyway, my point is that some layman uploaders use whatever is at hand and not necessarily have much preparation or technically involved solutions…

The closest would be a folder, synchronized between phone and computer (e.g. using syncthing) where you save the torrent files. Then the client scans and automatically adds torrents from there. It will remove such files, so while at it, you should also configure to save completed torrent files somewhere. When possible, torrent files are a better option (they bring metadata, required if you ever wanted to re-share some content).
