Long story short, there was a bug with apt that Pop!_OS didn’t patch before the release. They did so after the latest version at the time was released. Had he updated his system before trying to install Steam, it’d never happened, that’s the worst part.

My main hope for this is that their feedback helps the development of benchmarking and profiling tools on Linux. They do have quite a bunch of experience with them that could be really useful.

Read what I said again. It is not automatically bad, and it doesn’t mean it can’t be poorly used or poorly understood by the ones collecting it. It just means that it is an effective way to understand how your users are using your product.

Putting Mozilla (which from what I can tell is doing as much as they can trying to collect this telemetry data in a way that can’t be used to identify its users) in the same domain as Microsoft, which collects pretty much everything it can to sell to third party advertisers is ridiculous as best and disingenuous at worst.

People really need to kill that notion that telemetry is automatically bad. If the information they are collecting is minimal, as non-identifiable as possible and actually being used to help develop the browser, it’s a good thing.

Yes, turbo nerds in the back, specially being opt-out, opt-in telemetry is pretty much useless for trying to understand the majority of your user base.

I personally see as benefiting us Linux users by forcing the rare website that “doesn’t work with your operating system” to work if they want to reach that sweet over-a-billion-user Android market. Win-win for pretty much everyone.

People would still need to work, we are not abolishing the concept of work, what we want is a distribution of the value produced by the workers for the workers, so, for example, a disabled person wouldn’t have the same working hours of an able-bodied one, or a person that has to provide for a family of 4 wouldn’t earn the same as a person that lives by themselves.

Not OC, but per my last experience with it NVENC was way easier to work with.

You install the NVIDIA drivers, you install CUDA libs (in Fedora that’s separate, at least) and it works.

For AMD, you need to figure out that you need the proprietary driver for AMF (which didn’t have a proper installer for anything that wasn’t Ubuntu the last time I tried it) or be stuck with the unfortunately not as good VAAPI. After that you usually had to hunt for guides on how to use the encoder in the program you want (OBS used to be a particular nightmare for it, hopefully it got better with time).

I hope things got and continue to get better, specially since I’m 100% going to get an AMD setup after my laptop eventually dies.
