It’s literally listed in stack overflow’s section on IDEs, functions as a replacement for an IDE, was architected so that plugins can turn it into an IDE, and is distributed with plugins made by the same company that turn it into an IDE. Insisting that it’s not an IDE in this context isnt helping anyone communicate, it’s just being pedantic.

I’m not going to argue that Roku’s software is better, it’s definitely worse, but honestly, it’s not that much worse and doesn’t really impact day to day usage.
The voice recognition in the remote is slightly worse, the OS is less pretty and a little slower to navigate, but when 90% of its time being used is either playing something or displaying a screensaver, none of that really matters. It still opens instantly when I turn the Xbox on, it still lets me open whatever app I need and select a show, and it has one feature that Google TV doesn’t have that’s genuinely great which is private listening, where the audio will play from the Roku app on your phone so you can use headphones and not wake anyone.
Honestly, I would buy the best picture quality TV I could and not worry about Google OS or Roku OS at this point. And if you do get a Roku TV, I definitely don’t think it’s worth giving Google more money on top of that.

First of all, it is not a trolley problem because killing one CEO doesn’t change anything, and you’re not about to start a big enough wave of CEO killing to make a difference. He will be replaced with a different CEO, who will be just as greedy, who will now expense bodyguards and charge them back to your copays.
Secondly, we still don’t know why he was killed. Have you considered that this could literally just be a case of corporate espionage and assassination for money? Even if he was killed by a disgruntled patient, that doesn’t mean that patient did it on their own vs having their grief taken advantage of and manipulated by a corporate rival.
Thirdly, I really can’t express how much this isn’t a trolley problem given that you also literally saved zero lives by doing this. Really feels like you don’t understand what the trolley problem is at a fundamental level.
While it could, and I have no doubt that someone will try to do this, it’s not the reason it’s being shoehorned into everything.
It’s partially because it’s the tech thing that’s ‘so hot right now’, so every tech enthusiast and hustler thinks it can be used everywhere to solve everything, and it’s partially because it’s a legitimately huge advancement in what computers are capable of doing, and one with a lot of room for growth and improvement, and can be legitimately useful in places like Notepad.

The rise in near sightedness is tied to kids not spending enough time outdoors literally just focusing on things far in the distance, it seems to me that it would be more surprising if there weren’t also related mental health consequences.

Even with newspapers and the like are filter bubbles possible. I am free to buy only the newspaper who writes the stories in the way I want to read them. There are left wing newspapers and right wing newspapers and stuff in between. And even with newspapers and broadcasts you are still free to only consume what you want to consume and block, by not buying or active ignoring, what you not want to see or hear. Things like cracker-barrel philosophy or Stammtischparolen where a thing long before the Internet.

Yes, the filter bubble effect is still possible to some extent with a traditional chronological news feed, but it’s quite frankly absurd on it’s face to claim that that is the same severity of filter bubble, when a site like Reddit / Lemmy operates by taking those chronological news feeds and filtering them further.
The Guardian might be a relatively true neutral newspaper (meaning it appears to lean left by mainstream standards), and yet articles it publishes that back up any remotely right wing / economically conservative points do not get posted here.
Echo chambers naturally arose in the past because information could not travel freely, that does not mean they are a good thing or something that we should be recreating and reinforcing on the internet now that it can.

Filter bubbles occur because we have the ability to selectively choose to only hear news we like which is a new phenomena that is a result of the internet, because it is fundamentally a messaging system, not a broadcast system like virtually every news system throughout history.
You are just falling into the American trap that personal freedom is the ultimate good and should trump everything else, even if the systemic effects of it are bad.
Reddit / Lemmy are fundamentally not a good place to read the news and get informed because of the filter bubble effect. They’re a good place to go have an in-depth discussion about an article, but if you actually want to be informed then you should use an RSS reader or something else that gives you a chronological feed, not one based on what’s popular amongst people you already agree with.
