Switching to Default (non-dark) style in Gnome Settings > Appearance doesn’t change the popup.

Also changing the appearance settings like font-size in ibus-setup does not change anything, so I’m thinking the popup I see is actually not from ibus but from mozc. I think the mozc pop-up doesn’t support dark theme at all according to what I have read, so this is a dead end for now.

When I use the env var to force the use of ibus, I get the white rectangles.

I guess my only option now is to find a way for the ibus popup to recognize the Japanese font…

The first link did have different instructions, but it didn’t solve the problem.

I also tried replacing Fcitx with Ibus, the other major IMF that may have better Gnome support. But I have the same problem plus others: on some apps like Firefox, the popup appears in the top left corner instead of where I am typing.

Edit: It is better now, see post edit, but still issue with popup being white on white.

I think Garuda comes with a lot of things pre-installed, including IMEs. I have chosen the manual path many years ago though, and I am happy to keep assuming the responsibility!

I have installed one of the font package recommended in the wiki guide otf-ipa using yay.

I think this installs system-wide, is there a way to check if it is the case?

You can train it but it requires a lot of boring manual entries and the model may deviate if you ever stop.

It only took a couple more civil wars, thousands of political arbitrary executions, 2 empiralist dictatorships and 2 monarchies to get a stable democracy about a century later.

I had a Pycharm linter with “inconsiderate writing list” flag my use of “bi” as inappropriate, recommending to use “bisexual” instead. In my data job, BI, means business intelligence, it’s everywhere.

And the next year the t-shirt is expired because the player changed number or club, ka-ching! It’s like the football video games, they can sell the same low quality goods every year by just claiming that they updated the teams.

The funny thing is that the rich people know that those are 2nd class luxury. The real luxury clothes do not have big logos, they are made with expensive materials like silk, cashmere and other expensive hand crafted fabrics that most people can only afford exceptionally. Most Luxury brand sold their soul for profits by creating those 2nd class that wanna-look rich people can afford, but they still sell their actually valuable products to actually rich clients, without big logos.

P.S.: those 2nd class luxury are made in the same Asian sweatshops as the fast fashion like H&M, while real luxury are made by highly skilled workers, usually in Western countries.

Gosh, the money to join the USB-C standard should go into RHS instead!
