Had Jellyseer break on me again on Truenas scale, something about a jellyfin API blah blah blah. Decided that Sonarr and Radarr are fine enough to interface with that I don’t need it and deleted the image.
This headline should have said 1/100 players are installing this mod and we would have not clicked on it.
I haven’t thought too deep about my desire for the industry to push to indie, but this was an interesting read.
Another point that I’ve thought though, is that marketing budgets are insanely high in AAA in order to cut through the noise of the rest of social media.
I would imagine that if EA or whoever was pumping out 10 times as many games, they would need to share that marketing budget equally. The chance for cut-through for each game would be small and many of the projects wouldn’t even make financial sense compared to putting bets on a smaller number of the bigger budget games. The game release cadence would be really confusing and noisy, with people not knowing what is worth playing.
Very much agree with the last point about games being profitable as fuck. It should be enough that the industry is making shed loads of money above cost without the need to increase shareholder value every quarter by cutting jobs.
I wonder how much of the ballooning cost of AAA budgets are due to losing technical expertise by staff turnover/churn? I can’t imagine that creates an atmosphere of efficiency.
Strange that that’s the case. The thing that made the Witcher 3 good was the writing of the side quests, not the combat.
Not sure if I’ve played a game that’s pivoted to be more like the Witcher that has met that standard in that regard.
Mass Effect Trilogy and DA: Origins came out after the EA acquisition though. It seems like everything post ME:3 has been disappointing though.
I did a physics degree and am comfortable with Joules, but in the context of electricity bills, kWh makes more sense.
All appliances are advertised in terms of their Watt power draw, so estimating their daily impact on my bill is as simple as multiplying their kW draw by the number of hours in a day I expect to run the thing (multiplied by the cost per kWh by the utility company of course).
I was really confused by that and that the decided units weren’t just in W (0.1 kW is pretty weird even)
I just finished metro exodus and it’s DLC for the first time a week ago. Fantastically beautiful game.
It’s the only explanation. Sony are sitting on the IP to sell as an exclusive later down the line. It would be financially stupid of them to release a 60fps patch, even paid, for the PS5 at this point.
Great. The Remedy universe is really compelling, but they’ve always been a quiet achiever as a studio.
It’s not a $60 or $70 game, but certainly is better than most of the AAA offerings of late. Maybe think of it like it’s a full priced game that’s always on sale? You do you though. I thought it was well worth the asking price.
Awesome, I was sure they wouldn’t disappoint.
Factorio goes up in price over time, so now is always the best time to buy Factorio.
Been meaning to check out the expansion, good?
At what price point would this device be useful? Seems like the sort of device that was made to allow the company to be bought by Google/Microsoft/Meta.
Haven’t tried streaming, but I have Chromecast devices set up with the jellyfin for android TV app to stream from the NAS over LAN to any TV in the house. Basically don’t have any subscription service so these things are just Jellyfin + YouTube devices.
Have got two of my family members onto bitwarden and even that is a lot for the tech-illiterate. Couldn’t imagine Keepass+syncthing.
Ultimately, bitwarden is better than using hunter12 for everything like how they were.
Obsidian user as well. I like to think of it that tags are folders.
When you put something in a folder, you have to choose one of the files identities. Tags more or less allow you to assign a file to any number of groups.
So if you’re writing about an NPC in a DnD campaign, for example: That NPC will exist in a certain place. He will be associated with particular guilds and he will have certain moves that you might want to keep track of. You can later easily search by a guild or a move or a place and there will be a link to that NPC and others that share those indentifying characteristics.
A big advantage of zettelkasten is that you don’t need to really worry about file management in the sense of needing to make exclusionary choices.
Literally my first DM
