“warm water port” is a term I exclusively associate with Russia, because the only time it was ever mentioned for me was in a world history class, talking about Russian expansion to secure one.

While “port” might be a normal word, the phrase is a key to know where it comes from.

You know that game 6 degrees of separation, where you find 6 people you and a stranger have in common? You can do the same thing with your job and MIC spending by the government.

Maintaining the union is important. Without solidifying that every state is in it together, the federal government loses it’s power, then states start to push the limits, not paying taxes here, disobeying federal law there.

If we wanted to let states secede, we would have formed a Confederacy, or not a country at all. As it stands now, the US government will always fight for a United States, as to not do so puts everything in jeopardy. Maybe you don’t think that’s the best action overall, but until the US government is reformed under a heavily modified constitution that probably won’t happen.

In the US, for sure. I have been just flatly if ored when they found out I didn’t have an iPhone, and I was just not included in group conversations.

Those of use who have friends or groups of friends that use iPhones but us ourselves do not. In the US, iMessage is the #1 way to create a group chat, and if you don’t have an iPhone you’re often just excluded and rely on someone else to update you about plans, etc.

Yeah, unless it was a really important win, then you might say it out entirely to emphasize your utter dominance over them.

Except you would be very upset if your Uber eats took 3-5 days to arrive, as a postal system does. The cost is because it’s an entirely different product, an on-demand courier system. It’s closer to comparing universal healthcare with having a doctor on retainer (if such a thing exists).
