it is true that the founding fathers could not have foreseen the invention of more modern firearms, let alone the idea of semi and fully automatic firearms. but they did clearly envision that a armed populace was a good thing. they also fairly clearly envisioned it as a equally armed type of thing. what was modern then would be considered antique and primitive just a short century later. but the spirit of the amendment still comes through fairly clearly.

in the case of modern society, fully automatic weapons are heavily regulated and are not, in general, in the hands of the populace. true some can be modified, but to be caught with such a weapon, is going to bar you from legally having any sort of firearm, as it’s a felony.

those are really your only options. if the drive you’re talking about is the only one in your PC, it needs some free space to do it’s thing. mechanical hard drives are pretty cheap and abundant. check with whatever is local to you, about used ones if you need something on the cheap. even new ones in the 1TB range are pretty cheap though.

that’s kind of my take on it too. Linux has come so far from what it used to be like. it’s not quite ready to see mass-adoption, but it’s making some amazing strides. so many different parties have been contributing to a massive effort to iron out some of the issues with Linux. once performance improves significantly over Windows, and compatibility gets a little more wide-spread, you’ll start to see people willing to put up with the teething problems, in the name of superior performance.

THAT is when Linux will see more mainstream success.

i mean, i get his point. but most of these smart devices need an internet connection for any of their smart stuff to work. so long as you don’t give it your wifi pass, or wire it in, it’s just going to be a dumb device.

i have a newer LG TV i use with my PC. it’s just wired to my PC. at some point i connected it to internet to see how the IP Channel stuff worked on it. it would let me watch stuff for about 10 minutes before it prompted to download an app. that shit got disconnected quick. never again.

all this ‘smart’ stuff needs to be granted access to your network to serve ads and recommend apps. don’t connect it.

i’m one of those people. haven’t used anything other than Windows Defender for over a decade at this point.
