I did look into this while researching the phone, while still knowing that it is not a practical approach for most people. However, HMD phones are absent from the custom firmware scene.

I was about to buy this phone as a Christmas gift to someone who was a fan of the Nokia Lumia phones, but the high reparability makes little sense when the software support is only for two years from the phone’s release date.

How do you view diffs and merges when you say you don’t use git GUIs? External tool or terminal/command line?

Terminal.

I use Jetbrains IDEs and most of my life has been IDE based git interaction. And I honestly love it, easy access to see my diffs, the most common commit, push and stage(or shelve as Jetbrains does it, which is better than visual studio). Hassle free and available beats writing anything to me.

Perhaps, it is a mix of learned behaviour and cognitive fixation, as I started out my development journey predominantly using a terminal, that I cannot fathom Git GUI being hassle free.

I always found Git GUIs, especially the ones built into IDEs, to be more confusing and clunkier than working with Git on a terminal. It often feels like unlearning what one knows about Git, and relearning it the way that specific GUI demands.

Heck, I am going through the aforementioned feeling as I force myself to use Magit on Emacs. It just does not feel intuitive. But I will not give up until I have made an honest and full attempt.

The only sensible Git GUI I ever used is Sublime Merge[0], after a coworker praised it immensely. Even that is reserved for the rarest of the rare times when the changes in the workspace gets unwieldy and unruly. For every other instance: Git CLI on a terminal.

Voyager is indeed a really good app for Lemmy. It is based on Apollo app which was the best, and IMO, the only sensible way to browse Reddit on iOS.

I am glad @aeharding@vger.social had a working version ready merely days after the new TOS came into effect.

I have been using it since it was called Wefwef (which I still feel was a better name, more playful), and I liked it so much that I use it on my Android phone as well as my iOS daily driver.

My previous workplace did the same thing around 2020 with the words whitelist and blacklist and some other words.

It was around the same time when there was news about GitHub moving from master to main/mainline as the default Git branch.

Refurbished ThinkPads are available in countries where Framework, System76, and Pine64 do not ship.

Besides, ThinkPads are really well-built machines that perform well for everyday tasks at a fraction of their (or the aforementioned competition’s) original price.

I love my two machines, which are from before Lenovo took over completely. Their keyboards, port selection, and repairability are almost unparalleled compared to today’s competition.

I never found that to be a problem. In fact, I find the thumbnails distracting. But I can see it being a problem for others.

The rare occasion I work with image files, I just open it to identify, if I haven’t already named it properly.

It also helps that most of my workflows are not image-heavy.

For me, desktop UI peaked at Windows 98.

Installing the 95/98 GTK theme by B00merang is one of the first things I do after a fresh installation of Linux Mint.

I do try other themes once in a blue moon. But I soon realise it is a downgrade and revert back. The last theme I tried was the Arc theme back in mid-late 2010s.

I too was pleasantly surprised when I stumbled upon the app a few years back. The licence model was a major factor in choosing the app over the rest.

Indeed, it is very reasonable.

It strikes a balance between subscriptions and perpetual licences.

Beside mentions of Jetbrains license model, I would like to mention the license model of a note taking app called Agenda[1].

It has a subscription wherein the customer retains the software and all of its functionality even after the subscription expires. One may resume the subscription down the line if they see a new feature worth having.

The creators of the app liken it to a magazine subscription wherein the customer retains the magazines even after the subscription lapses.

From my own experience of using it, I purchased the license for a year back in 2021 and let it lapse as I did not find the any of the new features to be worthwhile. I still keep an eye on their updates as it is my daily driver.
